EVERETT — Two reporters at The Daily Herald took third place in a national feature writing contest this week.

Andrea Brown and Janice Podsada received the honor from the Society of Features Journalism for their article, “We’ve got mail! And we’re still surfing the web with AOL email addresses.”

The reporters still use AOL email addresses, in spite of the many advances in technology and civilization since the early 1990s.

Go ahead and try to shame them. They’ve heard it all, as they wrote in the story.

“Do you still have to insert the disc when you use that?”

“What’s your dial-up speed?”

According to the judge’s comment, the reporters “take us on a bumpy ride into our digital past, and they aren’t afraid to poke fun at themselves along the way. Their combined voices are warm and silly and a pleasure to read.”
