Six AquaSox win Mariners minors awards

Seattle — Six Seattle Mariners prospects who played for the Everett AquaSox this season were named Mariners minor league award winners, Seattle’s Director of Player Development Justin Toole announced.

Lazaro Montes was named Hitter and Co-Prospect of the Year for the Mariners minor league system. Minor League Baseball previously named Montes, 19, the California League MVP.

The right fielder played 65 games with the Single-A Modesto Nuts before a promotion to the High-A AquaSox, where he played 51 games. The third-ranked prospect in the Mariners system, Montes hit .288 with 21 homers, 21 doubles and 105 RBI between the two teams.

Left-handed pitcher Brandyn Garcia and right-handed pitcher Michael Morales were selected as Jamie Moyer Co-Pitchers of the Year. Both began their seasons with the Frogs before promotions to AA Arkansas.

Morales, 22, started 27 games in 2024, going 13-2 with a 3.02 ERA. Garcia, 24, appeared in 27 games with 25 starts. He finished with a 6-2 record and a 2.24 ERA.

Colt Emerson, the top-ranked Mariners prospect, won the Alvin Davis “Mr. Mariner” Award. The 19-year-old middle infielder joined Everett on Aug. 5.

Michael Arroyo, another 19-year-old middle infielder, won the Edgar Martinez “Dominate The Zone” Tournament Award. Tyler Cleveland, a right-handed reliever who appeared in 36 AquaSox games, won the pitching “Dominate The Zone” Tournament Award.
