Mukilteo police investigate online threat at Kamiak High

MUKILTEO — Authorities responded to an “online threat” Wednesday afternoon at Kamiak High School, one of several schools in the state believed to have received similar threats.

Around 2 p.m. Wednesday, law enforcement from Mukilteo police, the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office and the Washington State Patrol responded to the threat at Kamiak High. Officers searched the school and surrounding area, but did not locate anything suspicious.

The heavy police presence happened at the same time students and staff were leaving for the day in buses, vehicles and on foot.

After a search, officers confirmed the area was “clear and safe.”

Other schools around the state may have received similar threats, a press release said. Police believe the threat may have originated from an outside source, unrelated to Mukilteo.

“We take all threats of this nature extremely seriously,” said Mukilteo Police Chief Andy Illyn. “The safety of our kids in this area is our highest priority.”
