EVERETT — Construction crews will delay an overnight paving project along I-5 in Everett this week due to expected rainy weather.

Construction, along with overnight lane closures in the area, is expected to resume next Sunday.

The Washington State Department of Transportation has been undertaking a pavement project along 4 miles southbound I-5 in Everett since July 19. As part of the construction, up to four lanes of southbound I-5 between mileposts 193 to 188 have been closed from 7 p.m. Saturdays to 9 a.m. Sundays, from 7 p.m. Sundays to 5 a.m. Mondays, and from 8 p.m. Tuesday evenings to 5 a.m. Friday mornings.

Construction work, some of which requires dry weather, is expected to last nine more weeks.

The department undertook the $8.1 million paving repairs to fix a road that has deteriorated as more than 95,000 vehicles travel over it daily. The construction project will allow crews to perform additional repairs to the road and will improve the driving surface, the department has said.
