EVERETT — One man died in a collision involving a car and a semitruck that blocked Highway 9 near the 84th Street Northeast for just over six hours Wednesday near Marysville.

Around 12:45 p.m. Wednesday, a 2006 Toyota Avalon was traveling south on Highway 9 north of 84th Street Northeast, according to a Washington State Patrol press release. A 2025 Kenworth T880 semitruck was traveling north.

The Toyota lost control and entered the northbound lane, where the semitruck struck it, the release said. Investigators believe the cause of the collision was speeds too fast for the conditions.

First responders transported the driver of the Toyota, a 72-year-old woman, to Providence Regional Medical Center Everett, the release said. The passenger died at the scene.

Initial information indicated the passenger was transported to the hospital, but it was the driver.

The roadway was fully blocked while law enforcement and emergency crews investigated, said Washington State Patrol spokesperson Kelsey Harding on social media. Troopers from the Commercial Vehicle Division were also on scene assisting the investigation.

At 7:05 p.m., the Washington State Department of Transportation announced the roadway was cleared on social media.
