Land Rover Range Rover splendid inside and out

Land Rover’s Range Rover is classified as a full-size luxury SUV, but with such a storied past, it can seem in a class by itself.
The current Range Rover was fully redesigned for 2022, followed by enhancements every year. There are three trim levels: SE, Autobiography, and SV, with standard wheelbase (SWB) or long wheelbase (LWB) available for all three.
There are also three engine options, including a mild hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and twin-turbo V8. Engine availability varies depending on which trim level, which wheelbase, sometimes both. To explain the formula in detail would be reader cruelty, so let’s just skip to the part where I tell you what I drove.
My tester was the Land Rover Range Rover SE SWB P530, powered by the V8, whose 523 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque made short work of a trip from east Snohomish County to Portland and back.
The agony of being in I-5 traffic was assuaged by the Range Rover’s masterful ability to stay calm no matter how much the pavement taunted it. An adaptive air suspension system makes sure of that.
Rover’s splendid interior provided the ultimate in comfort and noise abatement. The Meridian 3D surround sound system (standard equipment) gets big credit, too. The 24-way heated, cooled, and massage front seats (an extra $1,400) were fantastic. Worth every penny.
Range Rover’s Pivi Pro infotainment system with 13.1-inch screen is a handful to deal with. Unquestionably sophisticated and cool-looking, it went way over my head (not hard to do) by turning simple procedures like adjusting the climate control into a learning curve.
On a more visceral note, my tester’s 23-inch Style 1075 Gloss Black wheels, a $3,000 option, were stunning.
The test vehicle’s EPA rating is 16 mpg city, 23 mpg highway, and 19 mpg combined. All models in the lineup have full-time four-wheel drive.
Base pricing for the Land Rover Range Rover starts around $107,900 and tops out around $234,000.
