The Seattle Mariners announced Wednesday that catcher Cal Raleigh has been assigned to the High-A Everett AquaSox for a major league rehab assignment.

Raleigh is scheduled to play in a 4:05 p.m. Sunday game at Everett Memorial Stadium. Raleigh, commonly nicknamed “Big Dumper,” landed on the Injured List for the first time in his career on May 14. The former AquaSox catcher is expected to play designated hitter in his first game back.

“He’s getting to a point where he’s getting much stronger and looks like we’re on a good path,” Mariners manager Dan Wilson said prior to the team’s game on Wednesday. “… It seems to be just progressing as should be, and so it’s really a good sign, and credit to Cal to put in all that work and get to where he is.”

Raleigh, who is working his way back from a right oblique injury, was drafted by the Mariners in the third round (No. 90 overall) in the 2018 MLB Draft out of Florida State University. Raleigh joins the AquaSox as he works his way back from a right oblique strain.

“He seems much more relaxed … and that’s a great thing,” Wilson said. “I remember my first stint on the on the IL … and it does give you a different perspective. And I’m sure that has happened with Cal, too. It’s all positive things, and he’s used the time well and wisely and has gotten himself physically and mentally ready to play.”

A 29-year-old catcher and switch-hitter, he made his professional debut with the Single-A AquaSox in 2018, playing in 38 games while hitting .288 across with 10 doubles, one triple, eight home runs, and 29 RBI, totaling a .901 OPS in 146 at-bats

In 2025, Raleigh hit a Mariners record 60 home runs, the most ever by a switch-hitter or a catcher.

In addition to becoming the seventh player in MLB history to hit 60 or more homers, Raleigh recorded a career-best .247 batting average, doubling 24 times while collecting 125 RBI. He walked 97 times — 17 of which were issued intentionally — and he stole 14 bases while achieving a .948 OPS.

Raleigh was named an American League All-Star, American League Silver Slugger, and won the Home Run Derby.

Raleigh made his MLB debut on July 11, 2021 against the Los Angeles Angels. Remaining with the MLB club in 2022, he hit 20 doubles and 27 home runs, collecting career-high numbers across the board. 2023 served as a breakout season as he hit 30 home runs and 23 doubles, driving home 75 runs while collecting a .232 batting average.

In 2024, Raleigh hit .220 with 34 home runs and16 doubles. He tallied 100 RBI and walked 70 times.

M’s Will Wilson to rehab Friday in Everett

Mariners infielder Will Wilson has been assigned to the High-A Everett AquaSox for a major league rehab assignment. Wilson is scheduled to play on Friday in a game that begins at 7:05 p.m.

The Mariners acquired the 27-year-old Wilson via free agency on January 26, and he is currently recovering from a left thumb fracture that sent him to the IL April 30.

Making his Mariners debut in 2026, Wilson has appeared in two MLB games this season. In five at-bats, Wilson has one home run and two RBI, and he also drew one walk. He has also played 14 games with the Triple-A Tacoma Rainiers this year, hitting .275 with two doubles, one home run, and four RBI.
