You’re ready to transform your kitchen or bathroom – in a way that makes sense for your family, for your home’s value and for the environment – so what comes next?
Fortunately, the local kitchen transformation pros have the process down to five easy steps that will take your kitchen from blah to beautiful!
Even better, it will happen with minimal fuss, no demolition and it comes with a lifetime warranty to back it up, notes April Peterson, marketing manager at Granite Transformations, whose custom, hardwearing countertops and backsplashes are placed directly over your existing ones for a quick and simple installation.
So, with the vision in mind, here’s how to make your home improvement dreams a reality:
1. Schedule a free in-home consultation.
Every home is different, so to discover the possibilities for yours, booking a free consultation with a certified and experienced Granite Transformation designer is essential. To avoid delays when you’re ready to get down to work, be sure to book the design consult early, Peterson advises. The designer will answer any questions you have and take all the measurements, allowing for an accurate price estimate. Book a consultation online, call the showroom at
2. Have all decision-makers present at the consultation.
Not everyone has the same opinion on a kitchen or bath renovation, even within the same family, so to avoid delays, it’s essential to have everyone with a voice in the renovation present at the design consultation, Peterson advises.
The designer will also bring along color samples, photos of previous projects and other elements to help you make your decisions. (To get a few ideas ahead of the consultation, check out Granite Transformations’ online Kitchen Visualizer and Bathroom Visualizer.)
3. Arrange the template appointment.
Once you decide you’re moving forward with the project, this is where specific technical decisions, such as seam placement are made, so again, it’s important to have everyone present who’ll have input into the project, Peterson says.
“With any slab material, depending on the size and layout of your kitchen, there’s likely to be at least one seam. Both personal choice and technical requirements may factor in to where the seam will be.”
4. Prepare for installation day.
To prepare for installation, disconnect and remove the existing sink, and anything in the cupboard below. Similarly, if you have a cooktop, rather than a slide-in stove/oven, that must also be disconnected and removed. For those needing assistance, Granite Transformation can connect you with local professionals who can help.
Next, clear off anything on the counters and ensure the team has a clear path to the kitchen or bathroom. While most of the work is handled at the Granite Transformation shop, it’s helpful if there’s a space such as a garage where any final adjustments can be made.
Finally, be sure there’s space available near the home for the installers’ vehicle; those living in a townhome, for example, may need to make arrangements with neighbors.
5. Enjoy your new kitchen or bathroom.
While installation typically takes just a day, you’re advised to wait until the next day to install the sink, cooktop, etc., just to give the adhesives time to set. With everything in place, step back and enjoy!
