Genesis has joined the luxury electric vehicle competition in a big way.

Enter the all-new 2023 Genesis Electrified G80 and a new standard for luxury electric sedans. You can now help save the planet and not sacrifice a thing.

Available only in all-wheel drive, the Electrified G80 is powered by two electric motors and lithium-ion polymer batteries and has a range of 280 miles and acceleration from 0-to-60 miles per gallon in 4.0 seconds. The battery rapid charges from 10- to 90-percent capacity in 22 minutes.

“The Electrified G80, the perfect balance of athleticism and elegance, marks the beginning of our journey into the EV market, representing Genesis in the era of electrification,” Jay Chang, global head of the Genesis brand said. “It is also the first time we are unveiling a new product outside of Korea.”

Electrified G80 seats up to five adults in posh comfort. The trunk suffers slightly from battery placement. Two large luggage bags would not fit when I picked up our daughter and her fiancee at Sea-Tac.

The Genesis signature “Crest” grille evolves into an aerodynamic crest featuring an inverted G-matrix pattern that emphasizes the Electrified G80’s mission for sustainability. The charging door is located in the upper right corner, and is invisible when closed. Inside the charging door, the “Two Lines” chrome design has also been applied, highlighting its design identity and consistency.

The Electrified G80 also features various latest technologies that emphasize sustainability. The solar roof integrated into the roofline can generate electricity using sunlight with a solar panel that increases energy efficiency.

The vehicle also features various natural and recycled materials in its interior, including leather that utilizes natural dye in the seats, console and rear seat armrests. In addition, an eco-friendly ‘forged wood’ garnish for electric vehicles, is made from recycled pieces of wood from the furniture manufacturing process, as well as environmentally friendly fabric made from recycled PET have been applied.

Creature comforts do not receive short shrift. In fact, they are enhanced. My personal favorites are the 16-way power driver’s seat with lumbar and power side bolster and cushion extensions (heated and ventilated), Lexicon premium audio system with surround sound and 21 high-efficiency speakers, smart cruise control, surround view monitor, and top-of-the-line navigation system.

Talking is the G80 can almost be whisper quiet, thanks to the electric motors and active noise control-road feature. Smash the pedal to the metal and all you get is speed – not noise.

With our daughter in town, the G80 racked up more miles than a normal week. I visited the Electrify America charging station twice, and rang up $42 on m Visa card. A savings from the gas pump, but not as stark as I had imagined.

As one would expect, the Electrified G80 comes loaded with standard safety features. The suite

includes forward collision avoidance assist, lane keeping assist, lane following assist, blind spot collision avoidance assist, rear cross-traffic avoidance assist, parking distance warning, driver attention warning, forward attention warning, electronic stability control and traction control systems.
