Do you have a rising star at your house?
Cascade Symphony Orchestra is taking applications for the 2011-12 Rising Star Search, and young musicians can win a chance to perform as soloists with the symphony at its Children’s Concert Feb. 25.
The contest is a search for talented young musicians who will be 13 or younger on the day of the concert. This year, the search is limited to pianists and violinists, according to press material.
The basic rules:
• All audition materials must be postmarked by Nov. 1.
• Musicians must complete an application found on the symphony’s website, www.cascadesymphony.org/education.
• Musicians must also submit a CD of an uncut, unedited and unaccompanied solo performance of these selections: pianists will perform the first movement of the Beethoven Piano Concerto No. 1, Opus 15 in C Major, with cadenza; violinists will play the first movement of the Mozart Violin Concerto No. 3 in G Major, K. 216, with cadenza.
• There is a nonrefundable application fee of $10.
Rising Star finalists may be asked to audition in person, and winners will be notified by Dec. 15. Winners must be able to rehearse with Cascade Symphony on Feb. 19 as well as perform on Feb. 25.
The concert will be held at the Edmonds Center for the Arts.
