1. Culture for all.
Looking for a dose of culture without traveling to another country?
Three culture-themed nights organized by local high schools are scheduled this month.
The first, a free event from 5:30 to 8 p.m. March 13 at Everett High School, 2416 Colby Ave., will include face painting, world music and a performance by Western Washington University’s Latin American dance team.
Another culture night at Cascade High School will have a fashion show, dance and student art on display from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. March 20 in the school’s cafeteria at 801 E. Casino Road, Everett. The event is free.
Finally, the ninth annual Culture Night is from 6 to 9 p.m. March 23 at Rosehill Community Center, 304 Lincoln Ave., Mukilteo. The fundraiser, organized by Kamiak High School’s student-led group Hugs for Ghana, will feature African drummers, Ghanaian cuisine and an auction of African arts and crafts.
Tickets are $30 for adults, $20 for students and free for kids 6 and younger. Proceeds help pay for Hugs for Ghana’s trip to Ghana in April.

2. Native space.
There’s a new gathering space at Everett Community College: It is named dəxʷhuyadadčəɬ, which means “The place of our way,” in Lushootseed, the language for several Native American tribes in the Puget Sound area.
The space, recently opened in Monte Cristo Hall room 221, honors the identities and cultures of Native American, Indigenous and Pacific Island students.
The walls are lined with cedar harvested from the Oso area. The space has computers, study areas and room for student meetings.

3. Vanished landmarks.
Monroe residents: Ever wondered where the Reformatory Superintendent mansion went?
The Monroe Historical Society has the answer. The society also will fill in the blanks on other Monroe landmarks that have vanished from 1 to 3 p.m. March 23 at the Monroe Library, 1070 Village Way.
