What: Lilium “Leslie Woodriff” was named in honor of Leslie Woodriff, the father of the oriental hybrid lily. This lily, which is part of the orienpet hybrid group, looks magical when a number of them are planted together. The orienpet lily is a cross between oriental and trumpet lilies. In addition to having great beauty, they perform a service to the ornamental border, in that they bloom after asiatic but before the oriental hybrids, extending the lily-blooming season. The color of “Leslie Woodriff” seems to change from purple to cherry red depending on the light. Its white edges and yellow green centers add to its overall appeal. It also is a Lily Society Hall of Fame winner.
Size: This lily reaches 5 to 6 feet tall and needs staking.
Sun/shade: Lilies require full to part sun.
Find it: At B&D Lilies in Port Townsend (www.bdlilies.com) or The Lily Garden in Vancouver (www.thelilygarden.com).
