After robbery in Everett, police shoot carjacking suspect in Oregon

Following a pursuit and a series of car thefts, deputies in Oregon shot the man, authorities said. He was taken to a hospital.

EVERETT — A man suspected of carjacking in Everett was shot Friday morning by Oregon police.

On Thursday night, Everett officers were called to a report of trespassing at a home on 17th Avenue. Officers tried to detain two alleged intruders, a man and woman, but they fled, an Everett police spokesperson said. At some point, officers believe they stole a Ford F-250.

A witness followed the thieves in Everett, but they then crashed into the witness’ car, according to police. Then the pair apparently fled south — all the way to Oregon.

Around 7:30 a.m. Friday, state police in Oregon began pursuing a Ford F-250 going the wrong way on I-5 near Roseburg, a six-hour drive south of Everett. Oregon officers chased them into the city.

In Roseburg, the suspects stole a Toyota RAV4 from an elderly woman who was driving by, local police said. They fled the city and “rammed” an Oregon State Police vehicle near a local store, according to Roseburg police.

The man then stole a Subaru and “ran over” the car’s owner, causing injuries that were not considered life-threatening, according to authorities.

The man reportedly later hit a Douglas County sheriff’s vehicle. Deputies fired at the man, shooting him twice, according to police. He was taken to Mercy Medical Center.

No officers were injured.

Police apprehended the woman after she reportedly tried to enter an occupied home. She was arrested without further incident and taken to the hospital.

Both suspects had active warrants for “escape” out of Washington. Roseburg police noted they were also wanted in a “violent robbery and burglary in Everett, Washington.”

Roseburg police will lead the investigation of the shooting.
