EVERETT — Start planning your beach days on sunny, sandy Jetty Island.
Reservations are being accepted for passenger ferry service that runs July 5 through Labor Day. Other than Mondays after Independence Day and on Labor Day, the service operates Wednesdays through Sundays.
The Jetty Island Days program, formerly operated solely by the City of Everett, is being run in partnership with the Port of Everett and Snohomish County.
The port is funding the program’s $100,000 cost, or at least whatever isn’t covered by a new $3-per-passenger fare. Children younger than 2 years old can ride for free. Previously the ferry operated on a donation basis and was perennially a net expense for the city of around $80,000.
Reservations are helpful for social distancing on the vessel and guarantee spots on the boat. The port is offering reduced parking rates of $2 for up to eight hours for Jetty Island passengers.
With the reservation system comes new rules and penalties for late cancellations and not showing up. Passengers are expected to arrive 15 minutes prior to the scheduled sailing time they reserved, or their seats could be given to someone in the waiting line. People who cancel a trip six or fewer days before the scheduled ride will receive a refund minus transaction fee and $4 per booking.
