GARDEN CITY, Idaho — A black bear cub burned in a massive Washington state wildfire last year is out of hibernation and is expected to be released into the wild this summer.
The cub, named Cinder, has been at the Idaho Black Bear Rehabilitation Center near Boise for the winter.
KTVB-TV in Boise reported that Washington wildlife officials will decide where Cinder will be released in June.
The cub was found under a horse trailer in the Methow Valley in north-central Washington, where the Carlton Complex fire burned about 400 square miles and destroyed 300 homes. Her paws were so badly burned she was walking on her elbows.
The facility’s Sally Maughan says the cub’s has gained about 80 pounds since being rescued and her paws don’t appear to be sensitive anymore.
