EVERETT — Snohomish County District Court judge Tam Bui held on to a narrow lead in the race to earn a seat as a judge in the state’s Court of Appeals, results on Thursday showed.
Bui led with 52.2% of the vote. Moore trailed with 47.5% of the vote.
Bui, 58, has served as a Snohomish County District Court judge since 2007. She previously served as a public defender and worked at the Washington Appellate Defender Association. Bui has also served on the state’s Board for Judicial Administration.
“I am grateful to my team and volunteers,” Bui wrote Wednesday morning. “There’s more votes to count. I am cautiously optimistic.”
Moore, 61, was appointed as a Snohomish County Superior Court judge in 2021. Before becoming a judge, she worked as a practicing lawyer for three decades, spending time as a prosecutor and at a civil firm. She had argued cases in front of the Court of Appeals and the state Supreme Court.
In a statement Tuesday, Moore thanked voters, her family and friends, her campaign team and volunteers.
“While the outcome of this election is still unclear, I will work hard to decide cases thoughtfully and impartially with the other Judges on the Court of Appeals should I win,” Moore wrote. “It is a profound honor to serve Snohomish County and Washington State. I’m so humbled by your support! Onward!”
As of Monday, Moore reported $81,266 in campaign contributions. Bui reported $82,960 in campaign contributions, about $50,000 of which was self-funded, records show.
Snohomish County will continue counting ballots throughout the week and certify election results Nov. 25. Check heraldnet.com after 5 p.m. each day for the latest results.
