Give: Food drive at Everett library

The Everett Public Library is holding a food drive through July 8 to benefit the Everett food bank.

“We heard from the local Volunteers of America office that food bank supplies run low during the summer, and we wanted to help,” said Kate Mossman, the library’s assistant director.

One of the reasons food banks run low in the summer is the absence of school lunch programs, she said. Librarians decided to tie in the food drive with the summer reading program. Kids who bring donations will get a commemorative button for their effort.

Here’s what the food bank needs: canned meats, canned and boxed meals, such as soups or macaroni and cheese, peanut butter, canned or dried beans and peas, pasta, rice, cereal, canned fruit, fruit juices and baby food.

The food bank can’t use rusty or unlabeled cans, perishable and homemade food, noncommercial packaged food, alcoholic beverages, mixes, soda, open or used items.

The Everett Public Library branches are at 2702 Hoyt Ave. and 9512 Evergreen Way.
