EVERETT — Everett Community College photography instructors Lloyd Weller and Ellen Felsenthal plan to display their photographs at an exhibit that runs through Dec. 6 at EvCC’s Russell Day Gallery.
Weller, who has taught at EvCC for 44 years, will show landscape and composite photography. Felsenthal will show work from her August horse trek across Mongolia and a series of abstractions integrating animals into landscapes.
The photographers will speak about the exhibit at a reception 12:30-2:30 p.m. Nov. 7 at the gallery in Parks Student Union room 219 at EvCC, 2000 Tower St. in Everett.
Weller, of Everett, took his first college photography class from Everett Junior College in 1964 and returned to teach in September 1969. He serves on the Schack Art Center board.
He combines related and unrelated concepts, subjects and spaces in his composite photography, taking cues from painters who freely alter their landscapes to show what matters to them. Learn more at www.everettcc.edu/lloydweller.
Felsenthal, of Arlington, has taught at EvCC since 1999 and holds degrees from University of Texas at Austin, and University of Washington. She is a traditional photographer who creates images directly from the world with minimal computer enhancements, relying on the color, textures and shapes found in nature for the structure of her images. The program was established by the gallery’s namesake, Russell Day, in the 1950s and was the starting point for well-known artists such as pinhole photographer Craig Barber, fashion photographer Dale Windham and photorealist and painter Chuck Close.
