Camano Island

Six Pearl Harbor survivors are to be honored at a ceremony scheduled for 2:30 p.m. today at the Terry’s Corner Fire Station on Camano Island. Jim Vyskocil of Camano Island will speak about what it was like being the port signalman to all Navy ships docked at Pearl Harbor during the attack.

Freedom Park Association is the event’s sponsor.

Everett

Gov. Chris Gregoire is expected to give a keynote speech at a Pearl Harbor Remembrance Ceremony set for 2 p.m. today at Naval Station Everett in the Commons’ Grand Vista Ballroom. Four Pearl Harbor survivors are expected to attend.

The event is set to conclude at 3:30 p.m. on the waterfront with a wreath being dropped into Port Gardner Bay to recognize those who died in the attack.

All military veterans are invited to attend. Arrive at the base’s main gate by 1:45 p.m. and tell the guards of your destination. No special identification is required.

Also, a gathering to mark Pearl Harbor Day is scheduled for 11 a.m. today at the Eternal Flame, burning outside the Snohomish County Courthouse, 3000 Rockefeller Ave., Everett.

Mill Creek

A Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day discussion is set for 2 p.m. today at the Mill Creek Senior Center, 600 128th St. SE, Mill Creek. For information call Bill Durham at 425-357-6002.

Oak Harbor

Whidbey Island Naval Air Station, Explosive Ordnance Disposal Mobile Unit 11 and a Pearl Harbor survivors’ group are expected to honor those killed at Pearl Harbor with a 9:30 a.m. ceremony today at the Crescent Harbor Marina on the Seaplane Base in Oak Harbor.

Guest speakers are Col. William J. Flannery, commanding officer, Marine Aviation Training Support Group 53, and Jim Stansell, president of Pearl Harbor Survivors’ Association, North Cascades Chapter Five.

To honor those who died in the attack, a wreath will be placed in Crescent Harbor.
