MUKILTEO — Three Mukilteo schools were locked down for about an hour this afternoon while police searched a trail near the Mukilteo library for a man possibly armed with a high-powered rifle.
Police received reports around 12:30 p.m. of a man lying down on the popular trail, Mukilteo police officer Cheol Kang said. The witnesses said the man, in his 50s, appeared to have a rifle.
As a precaution, police notified staff at three nearby schools. Kamiak High, Harbour Pointe Middle and Columbia Elementary schools were locked down for about an hour while police searched the area, school district spokesman Andy Muntz said.
Police combed the area around the trail and the nearby gulch but were unable to locate the man or anyone else with a gun.
