EVERETT — The disappearance of a downtown Everett art sculpture is puzzling police and city officials alike.
City project manager Simone Tarver alerted Everett police Thursday of the missing display on Colby Avenue at Wall Street.
One part of “Playmates,” — two giant puzzle pieces made of thick painted aluminum, created by artist Jere Donnelly in 2009 — was gone.
Everett police offered no other information Friday about the disappearing statue.
It’s unclear if officers had obtained security footage to suggest when exactly the sculpture was taken.
The downtown Everett Police Station is a half a block away at 3002 Wetmore Ave.
The sculpture is fairly heavy, confusing authorities as to why and how it happened, Tarver said.
The city has a map of about 36 other outdoor sculptures in and around downtown Everett. Playmates is described as 5 feet tall and 8 inches thick. This piece is reddish orange with two “tabs” and two “blanks.”
