Lake Stevens-based nonprofit Sherwood Community Services on May 19 honored state Rep. Ruth Kagi, D-Shoreline, whose district includes Lynnwood and other portions of south Snohomish County.

Kagi, who retires this year, was chair of the House Early Learning and Human Services Committee and worked closely with groups like Sherwood to support opportunities for children with developmental disabilities, Sherwood CEO Lance Morehouse said. He cited as an example the establishment of the state’s Department of Children, Youth and Families in 2017.

Morehouse presented Kagi with a “Guardians of the People” painting by Lummi artist Jason LaClair.
