LYNNWOOD — A suspected impaired driver crashed into a Washington State Patrol trooper’s patrol car on the shoulder of northbound I-5 in Lynnwood near 44th Avenue West, police said.
The trooper had impounded an abandoned vehicle on the freeway near 44th Avenue West and prepared to merge back into traffic when the driver crashed into the trooper’s car, according to the state patrol.
Both the trooper and the driver sustained minor injuries, police said.
Troopers took the driver to a hospital for medical clearance before booking the suspect into jail for investigation of driving under the influence, according to state patrol.
The crash blocked a lane of traffic in the early hours of Memorial Day. But all lanes had reopened as of 10 a.m.
State patrol Sgt. Anthony Califano said two suspected impaired drivers crashed into troopers within 24 hours.
This comes after a driver hit and killed trooper Chris Gadd while he was on patrol on the shoulder of I-5 north of Marysville in early March.
