EVERETT — A truck that tried to enter Naval Station Everett on Thursday morning was stopped because of a “suspicious” engine part, which was later found not to be a threat.

The base was locked down for about four hours.

At first, the naval station reported a potentially dangerous package had been discovered near the base’s north gate.

Later it was determined that workers noticed an unfamiliar engine part during a routine inspection, before the truck entered the base.

The naval station went into lockdown around 8 a.m. Loudspeaker announcements could be heard from miles away, telling those on site to stay indoors.

The naval station activated its emergency operations center and called Navy Explosive Ordinance Disposal specialists to inspect the truck using a robot.

Other agencies that responded include the Everett Police Department, the City of Everett and the Naval Criminal Investigative Service.
