LYNNWOOD — Heavy winds took down a tree Tuesday night in Lynnwood, killing a woman at a homeless encampment, authorities said.
Just after 7 p.m., a large tree fell on the encampment off Alderwood Mall Parkway, according to South County Fire. The deceased woman was in her 50s. Fire officials said no other injuries were reported.
The tree came down as winds ramped up in the western United States connected to a bomb cyclone storm.
Western Snohomish County, including Lynnwood, was under a high wind warning until 4 a.m. Wednesday. East to southeast winds were expected to reach a sustained 30-40 mph, with gusts up to 65 mph. The wind took down power lines across the county, with over 91,000 Snohomish County Public Utility District customers without power around 9 p.m. Tuesday.
