Agreement can reverse damage to salmon caused by dams

It is satisfying to see the attention given to tribal fishing rights and commitments made by the U.S. government in treaties that cannot be ignored, discussed in the debate over dam removal on the lower Snake River in a recent Herald editorial (“Two works in progress to save Columbia Basin salmon,” The Herald, Feb,. 29).
It may be ambitious to think we can assure healthy fish runs in perpetuity but we can undo some of the damage. There is no doubt that we will need additional sources of green energy but let’s live up to the commitments already made.
