Just a reminder for those who think the U.S. Postal Service has only been attacked by the Republicans. The Postal Accountability and Enhancement Act of 2006 was a bipartisan act. The House Democrats voted 201 ayes and zero nos. The Republicans voted 208 ayes and 20 nos. In the Senate it was unanimous with a voice vote. This bill required the U.S. Postal Service to annually prepay future retirement health benefits out 75 years in advance, about $5 billion annually.
The postal service receives no taxpayer funds, but what functions they serve are controlled by Congress.
Yes, at present, the Democratic party is trying to correct the problem, but don’t give them a free pass.
There is legislation that needs to be signed by the Senate. Sign a petition at www.change.org/p/save-the-usps.
