Snohomish County Sheriff Adam Fortney is transparently sharing the things he’s finding wrong and being accountable. He’s sharing what they’re doing to fix it.
Law enforcement used to hide its mistakes. The culture was defensive toward people. We’re getting inside information as partners in reforming the sheriff’s office with the sheriff. Even good change is scary. Can we believe it, or not? Prosecutor Adam Cornell is doing something similar. Isn’t this exactly what we’ve been asking for?
Going forward, people will be able to see real time data, give their input to fix policies, and see the progress as we work with the sheriff department toward the same goals: improve public safety, reduce complaints, and ensure interactions are more professional.
Transparency and accountability feels different.
It’s rebuilding my trust.
