Sheriff’s refusal on stay-home order jeopardizes public safety

Regarding Sheriff Adam Fortney’s refusal to enforce the state stay-home orders: I am a retired assistant police chief in Snohomish County, and military retired as well. There is a reason cops and soldiers swear an oath of office. Neither are allowed to decide what battles they will fight, or what laws they will enforce.

To allow personal preference to dictate performance of duty in these critically important positions jeopardizes the effectiveness of our military in combat and our domestic law-enforcement function, as well as public trust and confidence in two of the most important roles in our society.
