The deep space images from the Hubble and now from the James Webb space telescopes should scare us to bits. They show a mere sliver of the universe’s total immenseness. Some small dots are galaxies a hundred thousand light-years in diameter and billions of light-years distant. And there are millions of such dots all separated by billions of light-years.
These images magnify human insignificance a billion fold and it is pretty evident that we are stuck on this piece of dust with absolutely no hope of moving anywhere else. The human race ought to take note of this and clean up its act before it obliterates this rare paradise.
