The efforts to destroy the U.S. Postal Service by Donald Trump and his Republican supporters means delays in receiving life-saving medications for veterans and others who receive prescriptions by mail, and Social Security and relief checks may also be significantly delayed.
Those who pay bills by check through U.S. Mail should understand that there may be delays in receipt of bills without a corresponding delay in payment due dates. Since it will take longer than usual for your payments to reach utilities, banks and mortgage lenders, you could easily find yourself subject to unanticipated late fees or surcharges.
Late rent payments can lead to evictions, and for anyone who may have already missed or been chronically late on mortgage payments, a payment that doesn’t arrive on time could result in the threat or actual start of foreclosure proceedings.
Late payments on loans and credit cards are reported to credit bureaus, generally resulting in lower credit scores. Lower credit scores typically translate to greater difficulty in obtaining loans, and to higher interest rates and fees on those loans that are extended. In other words, the Trump damage done to the Post Office may affect not only your physical health, but that of your pocketbook as well.
If you are not happy with the Trump assault on the Post Office, contact your senator or representative and give consideration to how you vote in November.
