Snohomish County Sheriff Adam Fortney made a public statement that he was not going to enforce restrictions imposed by the governor in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. He argued people had a right to express their views under the First Amendment. For that he is facing potential recall.
Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkin also made a decision that gave away a portion of her city to protesters then removed all civil controls in place for public safety. She also cited their First Amendment right of free speech as authority. Protesters then declared themselves a “free state” with their own definition of government.
The sheriff chose to not act on a state-imposed restriction. The Mayor chose to not enforce codified law.
For the sheriff, is it worthy of recall? COVID cases have dropped in Snohomish County. So did inaction prove detrimental to public safety?
If the sheriff is worthy of recall for not enforcing a gross misdemeanor why is the Seattle mayor not accountable for not enforcing public law and safety at all? Lack of civil control has now resulted in a shooting death. When do First Amendment freedoms move into seditious actions? (conduct that incites or permits people to rebel against authority of a state).
