2017 Mitsubishi Mirage G4 SE: tech loaded, fuel efficient, safe

Mitsubishi’s Mirage hatchback has been a much needed moneymaker.

And with the addition of the 2017 G4 SE four-door sedan, even more consumers will fall in love with this affordable, environmentally conscious, subcompact. The Mirage also provides unexpected connectivity, a fresh, clean exterior, generous trunk and industry-leading powertrain warranty.

Mirage receives a redesigned hood, grille, front and rear bumper, fog and headlamps, rear spoiler and wheels. The exterior styling was given purpose, with an aerodynamic design to maximize fuel-efficiency and a simple, restrained form to help reduce weight, creating a car in which form and function come together.

Interior improvements include new seat fabrics, gauge cluster, steering wheel and shift panel. In addition, a new 300-watt Rockford-Fosgate audio system with EcoPunch is available, as is an in-car display audio supporting Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, the first Mitsubishi vehicle to get these popular infotainment systems in the U.S.

My tester was powered by a 1.2-liter 3-cylinder DOHC engine featuring the latest version of Mitsubishi ‘s variable valve-timing system that maximizes fuel efficiency and power output while greatly minimizing exhaust emissions. With the addition of a roller-type camshaft, Mirage increases its horsepower to 78 horsepower and 74 lb.-ft. torque.

It seats four adults without a problem, delivers 42-miles-per-gallon fuel economy down the highway, and the lowest CO2 emissions in its class, making it a great car for commuters seeking a gas-powered engine, or “green” consumers looking to give the planet a hug.

The Mirage G4 provides best-in-class total legroom as well as an ample 12.3 cubic feet of cargo space. That’s enough trunk room for a serious commuter to keep their stuff locked safely away and out of sight.

The G4 is not loaded with creature comforts, but there are enough goodies sprinkled in to keep owners smiling. Mirage features a push-button start, front-wheel drive, heated front seats, Bluetooth, USB port, compact disc player, cruise control with steering wheel-mounted controls and 15-inch chrome alloy wheels.

Every 2017 Mirage comes equipped with a wide array of safety features and technologies. These include seven air bags, four-wheel anti-lock brakes with electronic brake-force distribution and brake assist, and active stability control with traction-control Logic. Mirage models equipped with the continuously variable transmission also include hill-start assist.

As always, Mitsubishi backs up its quality, reliability and durability with a 10-year/100,000 mile powertrain limited warranty and a five-year/60,000-mile, fully transferable new-vehicle basic limited warranty.
