Career: The third overall pick in the 1972 Major League Baseball draft, Christensen needed just six games in the minors before making his MLB debut at the age of 19. He went on to play 11 seasons, with a career record of 83-71 and a 3.79 ERA. Christenson’s career highlight came while pitching on the Philadelphia Phillies’ World Series team in 1980.
Postscript: Since retiring in 1983 after more than 20 surgeries on his pitching arm, Christenson has been involved in the financial world. Now 51 years old and a divorced father of two, he lives in the Philadelphia area and is president of Christenson Investment Partners.
