Everett Silvertips forward Kyle Beach was named the Western Hockey League’s 2006-2007 Rookie of the Year on Wednesday.
The announcement was made at the WHL Awards Luncheon in Calgary, Alberta.
It marked the second straight year an Everett player has won the Jim Piggott Trophy as the league’s top rookie. Last year, Silvertips forward Peter Mueller took home WHL Rookie of the Year honors.
Beach led all 16-year-olds in the WHL in scoring this season with 29 goals and 32 assists for 61 points in 65 games. The Kelowna, B.C., native finished second among all WHL rookies in power play goals (18) and tied for second in game winning goals (six).
The Jim Piggott Memorial Trophy is presented each year based on balloting by the leagues general managers and head coaches. The award is named after Jim Piggott, who was the founder of the WHL’s Saskatoon Blades, as well as one of the first presidents of the league.
