Carter Hart named CHL Goalie of the Year

Carter Hart named CHL Goalie of the Year

Saturday produced yet another honor for Everett Silvertips goaltender Carter Hart as the Canadian Hockey League named him the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Year.

Hart continues his impressive haul after he was named the WHL Goaltender of the Year earlier this month. He earned the award over Mackenzie Blackwood of the OHL’s Barrie Colts, and Francis Perron of the QMJHL’s Rouyn-Noranda Huskies.

Hart’s age makes this award all the more impressive. The 17-year-old is in his draft year and with at least two years remaining in an Everett uniform, he could become the first-ever goalie to win the award multiple times.

Blackwood, 19, and was selected by the New Jersey Devils in the second round of last year’s draft. Perron, 20, and was a seventh-round pick of the Ottawa Senators in 2014.

Hart led the WHL with 35 wins this regular season and was second in goals against average (2.14), tied for second in shutouts (6), and second in minutes (3,693).

He has posted a 53-29-3-7 record with a 2.22 goals against average and a .917 save percentage with 10 shutouts in 95 career WHL regular season appearances with the Silvertips.

In addition to being named the Silvertips team MVP, Hart was named WHL Goaltender of the Week four times this season, named CHL Goaltender of the Week in December, captured the league’s Goaltender of the Month award in November, and suited up in the CHL/NHL Prospects Game in Vancouver.

He is ranked second among the draft-eligible North American goalies by NHL Central Scouting and will attend the NHL draft combine beginning Sunday in Buffalo.
