Community roundup: Oak Harbor boys win state bowling title

Oak Harbor High School won the Boys Division I title last month at the 46th annual Washington State Bowling Proprietors Association Varsity Championships in Spokane.

The Wildcats finished with 44 points. They were followed by Moses Lake (41), Ferndale (37), Shadle Park (36) and Omak (35.5).
Oak Harbor was led by Jacob Miller, who posted a 219 average and was named the Division I Most Valuable Player. Miller made the all-state first team and teammate Michael Kincy (214 average) earned a spot on the second team.

Other team champions were North Central of Spokane (Boys Division II), Shorewood (Boys Division III) and Shadle Park (Girls).

Other all-state performers from Snohomish County included Jon Byers of Cascade (211 average, Boys Division II, first team), Stephan Hornback of Oak Harbor (192, Boys Division II, second team), Eli Ewbank (185) and Rabby Davidson (183) of Mountlake Terrace (Boys Division III, first team), Bryson Parker of Marysville-Pilchuck (173, Boys Division III, second team), and Becky Davision of Mountlake Terrace (168, Girls, second team).

Volleyball

The Lake Stevens-based Lake Volleyball Club’s U-14 B National Team won the Gold Division at the three-day President’s Day Tournament held Feb. 19-21 in Puyallup.

Lake VBC, which finished with a 9-0 record, defeated Oregon Jrs. VA in three sets in the championship match.

Members of the Lake VBC team included Tamsyn Baumgartner, Sophie Swanson, Jessica Clark, Bailey Hall, Maddy Golden, Mikela Fountain, Taylor Campbell, Jazzmyn Poirier, Jessica Brennis, Megan Holman, Taylor Webber and Cyrene Hertzog.

The team was coached by Ashley Fitzmaurice and Megan Home.

Gymnastics

Everett-based Leading Edge Gymnastics won three team championships at the 2011 Seattle Invitational held Jan. 29-30 at Magnuson Park. Leading Edge captured the Level 5, Level 8 and Level 10 teams titles.

The Level 5 team produced three all-around champions: Kelsey Bassett of Everett in the 10-year-old division (a score of 36.600), Celinda Sewell of Snohomish in the 11-year-old division (37.525), and Quinn Davis of Everett in the 12-and-older division (36.250).

The Level 8 team was led by all-around champions Jillian Ohlemeier of Stanwood in the 14-15 age division (37.200), and Michaella Kahns of Bay View in the 16-and-older division (37.025).

In Level 10, Lily Gaffney of Snohomish won the all-around in the 15-16 division (35.875), and Kelsey Morris of Snohomish won the 17-and-older division, placing first in all four events — the vault (a score of 9.250), the bars (9.400), the beam (9.250) and the floor exercises (8.850) — for an overall score of (36.750).

Other all-around champions for Leading Edge were Danielle Palmer of Snohomish (36.750, Level 7, 13-year-old division), Ashley Albrecht of Everett (35.500, Level 9, 12-13 division) and Jeia Villacis of Everett (36.725, Level 9, 16-and-older).
