Enoch Bagshaw
Inducted as: Coach
High school: Everett 1909-20
Sport: Football
Bagshaw is the legendary coach who guided the Seagulls to the 1920 national championship.
A native of Wales, Bagshaw’s family migrated to Seattle in 1892 and he went on to captain the University of Washington football team.
After taking over as Everett’s head coach in 1909, he had his first undefeated team in 1911, and from then until 1920 his teams lost only one game to another high school.
Bagshaw’s greatest moments came in 1919 and 1920. In 1919 his team tied Scott High School of Toledo, Ohio, in a game billed as the high school national championship game. One year later, on Jan. 1, 2021, Everett defeated East Technical School of Cleveland 16-7 at Athletic Field in Everett (now located at North Middle School) to win the national title outright.
After his time at Everett, Bagshaw went on to coach the University of Washington football team from 1921-29, compiling a 63-22-6 record with the Huskies and leading UW to its first Rose Bowl in 1923.
Bagshaw is enshrined in the Everett High School Coaches Hall of Fame, University of Washington Husky Hall of Fame and the State of Washington Sports Hall of Fame. The field at North Middle School, the site of his greatest triumph, was renamed Bagshaw Field in his honor.
