County Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2023 bio: Jon Brockman

The 2005 Snohomish grad was the Washington Gatorade Boys Basketball Player of the Year after his senior season and also starred at UW.

The Snohomish County Sports Hall of Fame’s class of 2023 will be inducted at the organization’s annual banquet on Sept. 27 at the Edward D. Hansen Conference Center at Angel of the Winds Arena in Everett. Here’s the next in a series of bios of the 2023 class highlighted by The Herald:

Sport: Men’s basketball

Brockman was one of the most heralded high school basketball players ever produced by Snohomish County.

The 6-foot-7 power forward had a storied prep career, leading the Panthers to three Class 4A state basketball appearances and being considered one of the top recruits in the nation. Following his senior season he was named the Washington Gatorade Boys Basketball Player of the Year, was selected to the McDonald’s All-American Game, and reached the semifinals of the 2005 High School Slam Dunk Competition. His senior year accomplishments earned him The Herald’s 2005 Man of the Year in Sports honor.

Brockman chose to play collegiately at Washington, where he became one the of the best players in program history. He was named to the Pac-10 All-Freshman team in 2006 when he helped the Huskies reach the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament, was a second-team All-Pac-10 selection in 2008, and was a first teamer in 2007 and 2009, helping Washington return to the NCAA tournament as a senior. His senior season he was also named a second-team Parade All-American. He finished his college career as the Huskies’ all-time leading rebounder and second in career scoring.

Brockman was selected in the second round (38th overall) of the 2009 NBA draft by the Portland Trail Blazers. He went on to play 150 NBA games over three seasons with the Sacramento Kings and Milwaukee Bucks.

Following his NBA career Brockman headed overseas, spending four seasons playing professionally in France and Germany.
