Outlook: Sharp-shooter Kayla Huss is gone, but everyone else is back.

Coach: Ken Roberts, 2nd year.

2000-2001 recap: 13-1 in league, 23-6 overall. Finished second in the Wesco 4A playoffs, third in the bi-district and were 1-2 at state.

Leading athletes: Anne Bailey, senior, 6-0, forward; Elyse Barstow, senior, 5-6, guard; Hali Thompson, senior, 6-0, post; Emmy Cornwell, junior, 5-9, guard.

Outlook: The Panthers lost three all-league starters, but have eight seniors and size.

Coach: Emil Whitman, 2nd year.

2000-2001 recap: 8-6 in league, 14-11 overall. Finished fourth in the league playoffs. Lost bi-district qualifying game.

Leading athletes: Sarah Smith, junior, 5-10, forward; Mariko Coverdale, junior, 6-1, center; Shawna Hopp, senior, 5-2, point guard.

Quote: “I think Snohomish and Cascade will be the top two teams,” Whitman said. “We believe we could be the third top team. We’re young and quick, and we’ve got height.”

Coach: Steve Berg, 24th year.

2000-2001 recap: 10-4 in league, 18-6 overall. Eliminated from postseason in third-place game at district.

Leading athletes: Maisie Todd, junior, 5-10, forward; Gina Carbonatto, junior, 5-6, guard; Alicia Steinruck, senior, 5-10, center; Deanna Cooper, senior, 5-9, forward.

Outlook: The Vikings are athletic, but may have problems against teams with size.

Coach: Dwight Lundstrom, 4th year.

2000-2001 recap: 2-12 in league, 4-16 overall.

Leading athletes: Valerie Hartman, senior, 5-2, guard; Marcy Manibusan, senior, 5-2, guard; Shirley Spews, junior, 5-7, forward; Heidi McNeill, freshman, 6-1, center.

Outlook: McNeill may have the largest impact of any freshman in the league. The Wildcats could sneak into the top four.

Coach: Alan Dickson, 8th season.

2000-2001 recap: 21-6 overall, 14-2 in Wesco 3A. League co-champs with Meadowdale. Finished third in the district playoffs. Were 1-2 at state.

Leading athletes: Chelsea Zimmerman, sophomore, 5-7, point guard; Casey Kolrud, sophomore, 5-10, forward.

Quote: The graduation of seven seniors and transfer of Che Oh to Seattle Prep spell rebuilding year for Bearcats. Quick development of a young, but talented roster could put Monroe in contention for a top-four spot.

Coach: Cameron Fry, 1st year.

2000-2001 recap: 6-8 in league, 9-12 overall.

Leading athletes: Zoe Urnes, senior, 5-9, wing; Chenoa Urness, senior, 5-9, wing/post; Cerra Buckholz, senior, 5-8, point guard; Dawnell Jess, senior, 5-9, wing/post; Christina Palmer, junior, 5-10, post; Megan Beauchamp, junior, 5-7, point guard.

Quote: “We will rely on our ability to defend to stay in games early and hang around to see what happens,” Fry said.

Coach: Stan Nelson, 1st year.

2000-2001 recap: 8-6 in league, 14-11 overall. Fourth-seeded in the district playoffs, the Eagles went on to win the championship. They were 0-2 at state.

Leading athletes: Sam Penix, senior, 5-7, post, Mahlleace Tomsin, junior, 5-6, guard; Liz Kenoyer, junior, 5-5, point guard; Megan Murdock, junior, 5-10, post. Lauren Cort, sophomore, 5-9, forward.

Quote: “We are very inexperienced,” Nelson said. “We had a senior-heavy team last year. We will be searching to find our identity and style of play.”

Coach: Jeff Dutton, 2nd year.

2000-2001 recap: 5-9 in league, 6-14 overall.

Leading athletes: Trina Anderson, sophomore, 5-6, guard; Jackie Castillo, sophomore, 5-6, guard; Audri Rocha, senior, 5-2, guard; Chelsea Lorenz, junior, 5-11, forward; Stephanie Pratt, freshman, 5-9, forward.

Outlook: Mount Vernon’s five projected starters all played junior varsity or 8th grade ball last season.

Coach: Karen Blair, 8th season.

Leading athletes: Jennie Swerk, senior, 6-0, forward; Tara Jacob, junior, 6-0, forward; Jacci Baker, junior, 5-3, guard; Anne Martin, sophomore, 5-9, guard; Quinn Brewe, sophomore, 6-1, forward.

Outlook: Blair is fresh out of O’Neills, but the Class 3A Mavericks will battle Kamiak for the league title. Then they will move on to another run in the 3A playoffs.

Coach: Doug Montzingo, 2nd year.

2000-2001 recap: 13-2 in league, 20-5 overall. Finished first in the Wesco 4A playoffs. Eliminated from postseason play at the bi-district level.

Leading athletes: Christina Petersen, senior, 5-6, point guard; Kelsey Larsen, senior, 6-0, wing/post; Emily Jenkins, junior, 5-10, wing/post; Blair Bothwell, senior, 5-9, wing; Kelly Martin, senior, 5-7, guard.

Outlook: The Knights have both speed and size and could be a factor in the postseason.

Coach: Angie McGuire, 6th year.

2000-2001 recap: 9-6 Wesco, 14-6 overall. Qualified for Wesco playoffs and was one win away from a spot in the bi-district playoffs.

Leading athletes: Kamiya Woodard, senior, 5-8, guard; Tara Brown, senior, 5-8, guard; Sara Brown, senior. 5-9, guard/wing; Kelsey Hitchner, junior, 5-8, guard; Morgan Harter, sophomore, 5-9, wing/forward.

Outlook: Very quick lineup that may struggle against bigger teams.

Coach: Camelia Bloom, 2nd year.

2000-2001 recap: 6-9 in league, 7-12 overall. Lost first-round Wesco 4A playoff game.

Leading athletes: Nanda McCormick, junior, 5-10, guard; Kim Vanderzee, senior, 5-7, guard; Brenee Mullen, sophomore, 6-0, forward; Mesa Baladez, sophomore, 5-6, guard.

Outlook: A young team looking for a winning record.

Coach: Don Dalziel, 4th year.

2000-2001 recap: 9-6 in league, 16-9 overall. Finished fifth in the Wesco 4A playoffs, eliminated from postseason during bi-district playoffs.

Leading athletes: Angela Cornejo, senior, 5-4, point guard; Lindsey Dennis, senior, 5-8, guard; Haley Martin, junior, 5-7, guard; Whitney Michiels, junior, 5-9, forward; Rachel O’Suna, senior, 5-10, forward; Megan Sullivan, senior, 5-8, guard.

Quote: “A young team with only four seniors and one returning starter, we hope to get in gear quickly,” Dalziel said.

Coach: Julie Iverson, 5th year.

2000-2001 recap: 4-10 in league, 5-15 overall.

Leading athletes: Jessica Shadle, senior, 5-8, guard/forward; Danielle Arango, junior, 5-7, guard; Carissa McClenahan, junior, 5-3, guard; Andrea Jones, junior, 5-8, forward; Cat Baller, junior, 5-11, forward; Emilee Eisinger, sophomore, 6-0, forward.

Outlook: With a strong group of returners, Jackson is execting to compete for a playoff berth.

Coach: Nick Greenwell, 3rd year.

2000-2001 recap: 2-13 in league, 4-15 overall.

Leading athletes: Michelle Tiedeman, senior, 5-7, guard; Selena Leer, senior, 5-8, wing; Annie Everett, junior, 5-7, guard; Kristie Coppin, junior, 6-0, post; Kelsey Voetmann, junior, 5-11, post.

Outlook: With their height and increased experience, the Hawks ought to improve on last season’s record.

Coach: Tara Tri, 4th year.

2000-2001 recap: 2-6 Wesco, 2-17 overall.

Leading athletes: Sharon Bjella, junior, 5-8, forward; Tiffany Barquest, senior, 5-11, post; Janelle Hill, senior, 5-6, guard; Emily Olson, senior, 5-8, forward.

Quote: “We should be much more competitive this season,” Tri said. “We have a solid core of seniors, including eight returners from last year. We have more speed, experience, and a deeper bench.”

Coach: Jon Rasmussen, 2nd year.

2000-2001 recap: 0-14 in league, 1-19 overall.

Leading athletes: Molly Hunsinger, sophomore, 5-8, guard; Kathy Filipo, junior, 5-11, forward/center; Brooke McCaughey, senior, 5-8, guard; Wendy Quast, senior, 5-4, guard; Jonelle Pitts, senior, 5-8, forward.

Outlook: Still a fairly young team, but much improved over last season.

Coach: Scott Dillinger, 2nd year.

Quote: “I would be extremely disappointed if we didn’t improve on our record from last year a few notches,” said Dillinger.

Coach: Mark Neuman, 6th year.

2000-2001 recap: 7-9 in league, 10-15 overall. Eliminated from postseason after losing fifth-place bi-district playoff.

Leading athletes: Denise Wilbur, senior, 5-7, guard/forward; Jessica Goss, junior, 5-7, guard; Anna Wright, junior, 5-8, forward; Casey Jensen, sophomore, 5-5, guard.

Outlook: The Tigers will be one of several teams fighting for the third playoff berth behind Nooksack Valley and Blaine.

Coach: Chris Walster, 8th year.

2000-2001 recap: 4-12 in league, 7-13 overall.

Leading athletes: Stephanie Anderson, junior, 5-9, forward; Amy Anderson, senior, 5-4, guard; Jayme McFarland, senior, 5-1, guard; Robynn Black, junior, 5-6, guard.

Quote: “Our tallest player is 5-10,” said Walster. “We’re going to have to try to outrun the bigger, stronger Whatcom County teams.”

Quote: “We have a nice mix of experience and youth,” Koehler said. “Our most productive players statistically are back this year. We will be much more athletic this year and should battle for a district playoff berth.”

2000-2001 recap: 12-0 in league, 21-4overall. Runnerup to King’s in tri-district playoffs. Was 0-2 at state.

Quote: “We have a tough non-league schedule, but if we stay healthy, we should be in the running for another state berth.”

2000-2001 recap: 8-4 in league, 12-12 overall. Eliminated from postseason after losing fifth-place game in tri-district playoffs.

Leading athletes: Ashley Ellsworth-Bagby, senior, 5-6, point guard; Brianne King, junior, 5-7, guard; Tracy Taylor, senior, 5-8, forward; Sarah Mouw, senior, 6-0, post; Amy Mouw, junior, 5-7, guard; Erica Lamb, junior, 5-5, guard.

Quote: “We are much more athletic than last year,” said Oldham, “and we have a lot more size. That’s a great combination.”

2000-2001 recap: 9-3 in league, 12-10 overall. Finished fourth in the tri-district playoffs and seventh in the state tournament, losing the fourth-place game to King’s.

Leading athletes: Harmony Perrault, senior, guard; Michelle Meece, senior, forward/center; Amy Jones, sophomore, guard.

Quote: “We are hoping to finish in the top 3 and make it to the district tournament,” Ross said. “I think that’s very realistic. Our girls are scrappy and they play hard.”

Coach: Rick Holt, 5th year.

2000-2001 recap: 3-5 in league, 13-12 overall. Eliminated from postseason during the tri-district playoffs.

Leading athletes: Jacie Short, sophomore, guard; Natalie Holt, junior, forward; Christie Howard, sophomore, center.

Outlook or Quote: “We’re very young, especially after losing five seniors,” Holt said. “This will be a rebuilding year.”

Coach: Stan DeYager, 20th year.

2000-2001 recap: 6-2 in league, 19-8 overall. Finished third in the tri-district playoffs and was 0-2 at state.

Leading athletes: Darcy Madison, senior, 5-11, forward/center; Danielle Van Hal, senior, 5-10, forward/center; Cristina Nelson, sophomore, 5-9, guard/forward; Kate Maxwell, junior, 5-6, guard/forward.

Outlook: Should compete with Darrington and Mount Vernon Christian for top three spots.

Coach: Eric Rasmussen, 11th year.

2000-2001 recap: 13-0 in league, 23-5 overall. Won the tri-district championship and finished fourth at state.

Outlook: With four starters back, the Knights could be a state title contender.
