TUCSON, Ariz. – Five Huskies scored in double figures Saturday, including Meadowdale High graduate Kristen O’Neill, but Arizona rallied behind the play of Candice Allen, Elizabeth Pickney and Dee-Dee Wheeler to upset Washington 83-69.

Allen scored a career-high 25 points and Pickney added 24 as the Wildcats, who trailed 34-33 at intermission, dominated the second half and ran away from the Huskies in the Pacific-10 Conference game. Wheeler added 18 points and five assists.

“Today was a step backward,” said UW coach June Daugherty, whose Huskies lost their second straight game. “We could have played harder and more inspired.”

“Credit Arizona’s defense. We didn’t give 100 percent getting back and they were able to get in their running game.”

Washington was led by Emily Autrey, who scored 14 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Andrea Lalum and Kristen O’Neill each had 11 points while Mendiola and Loree Payne added 10 apiece. O’Neill’s sister, Kellie, also a Meadowdale High School grad, and Arlington High grad Kayla Burt each had three points. Burt also had three steals

After trailing by a point at the half, Arizona opened play after the break with a 17-7 run to go up 50-41 with 11:30 remaining. A layup by Washington’s Giuliana Mendiola cut the Huskies’ deficit to 55-52 with 8:05 to, but the Huskies got no closer.

Allen and Wheeler were a combined 16-for-25 from the floor to pace Arizona’s backcourt.
