LAKE STEVENS — After a junior season loaded with individual and team accomplishments, Lake Stevens High School quarterback Kolton Matson continues to create some buzz around the nation.

Matson is listed among 20 quarterbacks in High School on SI’s “Who is the best quarterback in the nation in 2024” poll as he enters his senior year. It is, after all, election season. As of Thursday morning, voting was still open and Matson was in second place, trailing only Noah Grubbs of Lake Mary High School in Florida.

Matson, The Herald’s 2023 All-Area Football Player of the Year, threw for 3,338 yards and 49 touchdowns last season as the Viking finished 13-1. He was also the Gatorade Washington Player of the Year and and SBLive Offensive Player of the Year after leading the Vikings to their second straight state title.

Lake Stevens opens against what is expected to be a strong Sumner team on Sept. 6.
