EDMONDS – LaRod Lover scored nine of his game-high 16 points in the fourth quarter as Meadowdale rallied from 10 points down in the second half to defeat Edmonds-Woodway 44-37 in a Western Conference South Division showdown.
“We got off to a slow start,” said Meadowdale coach Chad McGuire, whose Mavericks (5-0 league, 6-1 overall) took over sole possession of first place in the Wesco South. “We just chipped away at the lead in that second half. We didn’t really make a huge run. We just chipped and chipped.”
Edmonds-Woodway (4-1, 5-1), which dropped into a tie with Kamiak for second place, took a 24-14 lead into halftime. However, the Mavericks’ defense kicked in during the final two quarters, surrendering just 13 points in the second half.
“We made some adjustments at halftime,” McGuire said. “We wanted to keep it simple and play tough defense, and we did just that.”
Taylor Marsh scored six of his 10 points in the second half for Meadowdale. McKenzie Thoms led E-W with seven points.
