KIRKLAND – The new radio broadcasts of Seattle Seahawks games will have a sense of familiarity to local football fans.

Steve Raible and Warren Moon, both former Seahawks players who teamed up to do television preseason games last year, were unveiled Wednesday as the new team for KIRO’s radio broadcasts.

Raible replaces Brian Davis as the play-by-play guy after 22 years as a color analyst. Moon takes the spot vacated by Raible. The pair will work together for all 16 regular-season games and four preseason contests.

“Even though we are new to the broadcast team, I think everybody doesn’t view us as new people in this community,” Moon said.

Moon spent 17 years in the NFL after playing quarterback at the University of Washington and in the Canadian Football League. His final two years were with the Seahawks in 1997-98.

Upon retirement, Moon served as an analyst and sideline reporter for Westwood One radio and Fox Sports Net. Moon has joined Raible for Seahawks television broadcasts in each of the past two preseasons.

“I’ve always had a great relationship with the people in this organization and in this city, as far as being a college player here,” Moon said. “It’s just a natural progression for me to be more involved with this organization than any other organization that I played for.”

Raible was a wide receiver for the Seahawks from 1976-81 but is better known in Seattle as the news anchor at KIRO television since 1993. He has won five local Emmy Awards, including two for best anchor.

“I really wanted the challenge of play-by-play, but I was really happy doing color and had done it for a long time,” Raible said. “I felt very secure in it and felt like I brought something to the dance.

“But the challenge of doing play-by-play, especially in the city where you’ve been so long – I’ve been here since the helmets were leather – there’s something that feels right about that.”

Quick slants: The team has already sold 4,500 new season tickets, which is more new season ticket holders than they added all of last year. … The NFL draft is next weekend, beginning at 9 a.m. on Saturday, April 24. The Seahawks have the 23rd pick in the first round, in addition to six other selections.
