Prep football: King’s 42, Granite Falls 13

GRANITE FALLS — His yardage numbers through the air were nothing out of the ordinary, but King’s junior quarterback Billy Green threw for five touchdowns to lead his Knights over Granite Falls 42-13 at Granite Falls High School Friday night.

Green totaled just 153 yards passing, but didn’t throw an interception in the Cascade Conference game. He finished 14-for-21, half the completions going to his junior wide receiver Caleb Taylor, who scored on seven and 11-yard catches.

“They’re definitely on the same page,” King’s coach Jim Shapiro said of his quarterback-receiver pair after the win that improved his team to 5-1 in the conference. “They’ve worked out in the offseason together, so they’re good at reading one another.”

The head coach of Granite Falls, Tracey Bechtholdt, summed up Green’s play.

“He shredded us. He’s quick, and he’s got a quick release. He’s got great accuracy. We were there most of the time on the coverages, but he was on the money.”

King’s running back Trevor Hanson had 10 carries for 71 yards and one touchdown, a three-yard run that put King’s up 7-0 in the first quarter. His rushing contributed to 115 first-half yards on the ground for King’s.

Granite Falls was led by the 11 tackles of linebacker Dalton Pierce and defensive tackle Zach Whittaker’s 10 tackles.
