PREP VOLLEYBALL ROUNDUP: King’s wins battle of unbeaten teams

EVERETT — In a battle of unbeaten rivals, it was King’s night.

King’s and Archbishop Murphy were each 6-0 and sat tied atop the Cascade Conference volleyball standings when the evening started. But the Knights swept the Wildcats 25-17, 25-18, 27-25 at Archbishop Murphy High School Thursday night.

The Knights, who are ranked No. 1 in 1A in the state coaches’ poll, were led by seniors Dionna Kirton, who had 17 kills, and setter Anna Cesari’s 26 assists

“Our kids were very prepared for a challenging match, said King’s head coach Steve Bain. “It’s always a tough environment going into their gym.”

Tina Boggs served five aces for King’s, and on the defensive side, sophomore libero McKenzie Daniels stepped up to the pressure with 16 digs.

“The Wildcats, who are No. 2 in the 2A poll, were led by Becca Gotz, who had 14 kills and 13 digs, and Savannah Fletcher, who registered six kills, five blocks and two aces.

Hannah Linsenmayer chipped in with 27 digs, two kills and two aces, and Dani Baehm added 20 assists, three kills and one ace.

“It’s developed into a great rivalry with two very successful programs,” said Bain. “We look forward to playing them every year. They’re formidable, and we’re fortunate enough to get the victory.

Granite Falls 3, Sultan 0: At Granite Falls, Monesa Moore had 16 kills and three aces, Ericka Smith had nine kills and Hanna Dudder had 25 assists in Granite Falls’ 25-11, 25-20, 25-19 Cascade Conference win. Sultan fell to 0-7, 0-7.

Lakewood 3, Cedarcrest 1: At Duvall, after falling 24-26 in a close first set, Lakewood won the next three 25-15, 25-14, 25-22 to earn the Cascade Conference win. Hannah Smythe and Jessica Knoth had 15 kills apiece for Cedarcrest (4-3, 5-3). Allie Hernandez had 16 digs, Samantha Adams had 29 assists and Hayley Liebel had 15 kills for Lakewood (6-1, 8-1).

Coupeville 3, South Whidbey 1: At Coupeville, Coupeville (5-2 league, 6-2 overall) defeated South Whidbey (4-3, 4-3) in Cascade Conference action by scores of 25-18, 16-25, 25-23 and 25-15. Jessica Riddle had 15 kills and 27 digs, Michelle Riddle had 11 kills and Julie Swankie had 30 assists for Coupeville. Swankie was also 18-for-18 in serving attempts. Brittany Wood had 25 digs and Alison Wood had 14 kills for South Whidbey.

Marysville-Pilchuck 3, Lake Stevens 0: At Lake Stevens, Mikayla Larosa had 14 kills and Riley Taitingfong had 19 assists and 13 digs to lead Marysville-Pilchuck to the 25-19, 26-24, 25-18 Wesco North win. Brooke Dalgleish had 23 digs and Marchelle Bostic added 20 assists for Lake Stevens (0-1 league, 3-4 overall). The Tomahawks improved to 1-0, 4-3.

Monroe 3, Oak Harbor 0: At Monroe, Monroe (1-0 league, 6-1 overall) defeated Oak Harbor (0-1, 2-4) in Wesco North action by scores of 25-18, 25-13 and 25-16. Kendal Munoz had 21 assists and four aces, Megan Birch had 15 kills and 10 digs and Meagan McPhetridge had 11 kills for Monroe. Kelsey Terrazas-Cooley had 16 digs and Katelyn Bristow had 12 digs for Oak Harbor.

Everett 3, Arlington 0: At Everett, led by the 16 kills from Emily Liger and the nine kills of Molly Burton, Everett won the Wesco North opener in straight sets (25-13, 25-20, 25-22). Annie Ingram had 20 assists and Lauren Altman had eight kills and six digs for the Seagulls (1-0 league, 4-3 overall). Melissa Webb (18 assists) and Kenzie Jorgenson (six kills) led the way for Arlington (0-1, 2-5).

Snohomish 3, Cascade 1: At Snohomish, Snohomish (1-0 league, 2-4 overall) defeated Cascade (0-1, 0-6) in a Wesco North match by scores of 25-15, 25-19, 23-25 and 25-23. Megan Rice had 15 kills and 16 digs and Karla Nelson had 30 assists for the Panthers. Esther No had eight digs and Kaitie Brush had five kills for the Bruins.

Mountlake Terrace 3, Mariner 0: At Mountlake Terrace, Mountlake Terrace (1-0 league, 2-4 overall) defeated Mariner (0-1, 0-6) in Wesco South action by scores of 25-14, 25-16 and 27-25. Chrysandra Dresser had 28 assists, Liana Samuelson had nine kills and Stephanie McGee had 15 digs and eight aces for Mountlake Terrace. Katelyn Kelly had eight kills and Carly Wells 21 digs for Mariner.

Meadowdale 3, Shorecrest 0: At Lynnwood, Alexa Cannon had 10 kills, Megan Nelson and 19 assists and 14 digs and Jessica Yi had 18 digs for Meadowdale to lead the Mavericks to the Wesco South win. The Mavericks (1-0 league, 4-2 overall) won in straight sets, 25-20, 25-16, 25-20. Shorecrest fell to 0-1, 2-4.

Jackson 3, Edmonds-Woodway 1: At Mill Creek, in its’ Wesco South season opener, Jackson came out on top, winning the divisional contest 25-23, 25-21, 17-25, 25-9. Christy Cain had 16 kills and six blocks, Leigh-Ann Haataja had 13 kills and 10 digs and Haley MacDonald had 40 aces for the Timberwolves (1-0 league, 6-0 overall). Ashley Kelly and Haley Scott each had nine kills to lead Edmonds-Woodway (0-1, 4-2).

Darrington 3, Concrete 0: At Darrington, the Loggers won the Northwest 1A/2B League match 25-7, 25-10, 25-12 behind Kolby Fanning’s 23 of 24 serving with 10 aces, Hailey Wales’ six kills and twin-sister Randi Wales’ five kills and five aces. Darrington improved to 4-1 in league, 6-1 overall. Concrete is now 0-5, 0-7.

Shoreline Christian 3, Evergreen Lutheran 2: At Shoreline, Laura Kredit had 15 kills and Anne Marie Visser went a perfect 15-for-15 from the service line and had 12 kills and 35 assists to lead Shoreline Christian to the back-and-forth 25-17, 23-25, 21-25, 25-16, 9-1 non-conference win. The win improves Shoreline Christian’s record to 4-1 overall.

North Sound Christian 3, Grace Academy 0: At Marysville, North Sound Christian (5-0 league, 6-1 overall) defeated Grace Academy (1-4, 1-7) by scores of 25-20, 25-17 and 25-21 in the Northwest 1B League match. Chantelle Meeks had 17 kills and eight aces and Maylisa Chung had 25 assists and seven aces for NSC.
