The Snohomish County Explosion announced Thursday that Randy Redwine has resigned as head coach of the International Basketball League team.
Explosion general manager Brad Sturlaugson said Redwine stepped down for “personal reasons.”
During the past season, Redwine commuted from south Seattle to the team’s home in Monroe. “I think it probably started to wear on him,” Sturlaugson said of the travel.
Redwine compiled a two-year record of 31-15 and guided the Explosion to the postseason in each of the franchise’s first two seasons.
“We can’t thank Randy enough for his contribution getting this organization off the ground floor, without him, we would not be where we are today as a team,” Sturlaugson said. “Now, we need to move forward and take the next step in the team’s future.”
Sturlaugson has compiled a list of six candidates to replace Redwine, a group that includes former Explosion player Chris Weakley, the Explosion said in a press release.
