Seahawks agree to a contract with DT Ahtyba Rubin

The Seahawks retained the first of their unrestricted free agents Monday night when they agreed to terms with defensive tackle Ahtyba Rubin.

That’s courtesy of Seahawks.com’s John Boyle, who also happens to be my predecessor.

Rubin, 29, signed on with Seattle prior to last season following seven seasons in Cleveland. He was on a one-year deal worth $2.6 million. He provided solid play against the run in the Seahawks’ base offense, finishing with 36 tackles and two sacks.

The deal is reportedly for three years. Financial details were not immediately known.

Both of Seattle’s starting defensive tackles were unrestricted free agents following the season, the other being Brandon Mebane. It’s yet to be determined whether the re-signing of Rubin affects Seattle’s ability to also retain Mebane.
