EVERETT — The Everett Silvertips have rounded out their coaching staff with the hiring of Dean DeSilva as an assistant, the team announced Monday.
DeSilva, a native of Ayr, Ontario, has previous coaching experience in the WHL, having spent the 2019-20 season with the Vancouver Giants, with whom he specialized in video and statistical analysis. He’s also worked with Hockey Canada as an assistant at the under-16, under-17 and 3 Nations Cup levels.
“We’re excited to add Dean along with his abilities to help maximize the potential of our players,” Everett general manager and head coach Dennis Williams said in a press release. “As we aimed to expand our coaching staff leading into this season, thorough conversations with Dean kept leading us to conclusions that he was a terrific fit. He is a strong communicator, has a strong understanding of today’s game and is very good at relating with players through video and on the ice.”
DeSilva joins Williams and assistant coach Louis Mass behind Everett’s bench, giving the Tips their usual three-person staff. Last season, during the coronavirus pandemic-shortened campaign, the Tips operated with just Williams and Mass as coaches.
Everett opens training camp for the 2021-22 season this week at Angel of the Winds Arena and the Everett Community Ice Rink, with players scheduled to report Thursday and scrimmages scheduled to begin Friday.
