The Herald’s 2022 All-Area high school volleyball teams

A look at the top prep volleyball players in the area this fall.

Editor’s note: The Player of the Year and All-Area teams were chosen by The Herald sports staff based on coach recommendations, season statistics and first-hand observations.

PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Bella Christensen, sr., OH, Lake Stevens

COACH OF THE YEAR

Annalise Mudaliar, Lynnwood

Mudaliar guided her alma mater to its first state berth since 2003. The Royals posted a 17-7 record and rallied from the brink of elimination at district to reach the Class 3A state tournament, where they went 2-2 and finished one win away from a state trophy.

FIRST TEAM

Bella Christensen, sr., OH, Lake Stevens

The Air Force commit averaged 3.3 kills, 2.5 digs and 0.5 aces per set while helping lead the talent-laden Vikings to an 18-4 record, their sixth consecutive Wesco 4A title and a 4A state runner-up finish. Christensen had 25 kills in Lake Stevens’ state semifinal win over top-seeded and previously unbeaten Puyallup.

Laura Eichert, fr., OH, Lake Stevens

Eichert posted 3.5 kills per set and a .253 hitting percentage, along with 1.9 digs, 0.5 blocks and 0.4 aces per frame. She helped lead the talent-laden Vikings to an 18-4 record, their sixth consecutive Wesco 4A title and a 4A state runner-up finish.

Jessi Mahler, sr., OH, Monroe

Mahler averaged 4.2 kills, 2.8 digs, 2.0 aces and 1.5 blocks per set while leading the Bearcats to a 14-7 record and a 3A state tournament appearance.

Hayli Tri, sr., MB, Lake Stevens

The Western Washington signee posted 1.9 kills per set and a .252 hitting percentage, along with 0.8 blocks and 0.5 digs per frame. She finished as the program’s career record holder in both blocks and kills by a middle blocker. She helped lead the talent-laden Vikings to an 18-4 record, their sixth consecutive Wesco 4A title and a 4A state runner-up finish.

Peri Hoshock, sr., MB, Lake Stevens

The Citadel signee averaged 1.5 kills per set and a .216 hitting percentage, along with 0.9 blocks and 0.8 digs per frame. She helped lead the talent-laden Vikings to an 18-4 record, their sixth consecutive Wesco 4A title and a 4A state runner-up finish.

Ayla Grant, sr., S/OPP, Snohomish

Grant posted 5.2 assists, 1.4 digs, 1.0 kills and 0.6 aces per set. She led the Panthers to an 18-3 record, an unbeaten run to the Wesco 3A/2A title, the 3A District 1 Tournament crown and a 3A state tournament appearance.

SECOND TEAM

Tanna Kollen, sr., OH, Meadowdale

Kollen averaged 3.7 kills per set and logged a .200 hitting percentage. She led the Mavericks to a 16-6 record, a 3A District 1 Tournament runner-up finish and the program’s first state berth since 2013.

Hannah Johnson, jr., MB, Lynnwood

Johnson posted 3.1 kills, 1.2 blocks and 0.6 aces per set. She helped lead the Royals to a 17-7 record and a 3A state tournament appearance, which marked the program’s first state trip since 2003.

Alishia Nichols, sr., S/OPP, Archbishop Murphy

Nichols averaged 4.6 assists, 3.0 digs, 1.8 kills and 1.1 aces per set. She helped lead the Wildcats to a 14-5 record.

Addison Eastwood, soph., S/OPP, Jackson

Eastwood posted 2.8 kills per set and a .251 hitting percentage, along with 3.8 assists, 2.0 digs and 0.7 aces per frame. She helped lead the Timberwolves to a 19-6 record and a seventh-place trophy at the 4A state tournament.

Katelyn Eichert, jr., S, Lake Stevens

Eichert averaged 8.9 assists, 1.9 digs, 0.5 kills and 0.5 aces per set. She totaled a single-season school-record 917 assists and already holds the program’s career assists record. She helped lead the talent-laden Vikings to an 18-4 mark, their sixth consecutive Wesco 4A title and a 4A state runner-up finish.

Alyss Kelly, jr., L, Lake Stevens

Kelly posted 3.4 digs, 1.6 assists and 0.3 aces per set and has already broken the program’s career digs record. She helped lead the talent-laden Vikings to an 18-4 mark, their sixth consecutive Wesco 4A title and a 4A state runner-up finish.
